We have turned a new leaf (excuse the autumnal pun) and a new season is upon us. No, I'm not talking about the imminent arrival of winter. I am alluding to the new state of affairs in our household. For the first time last night, Sam slept in a big boy bed! There was no fussing around, no creeping out of bed, no late night monologues. We read a book, he put his head on the pillow and got tucked in. The lights went out and 12 hours later, I had to go and poke him awake. If anyone had told me that the transition from crib to bed would have gone so smoothly, I'd have said they were crazy. Who knows if the smooth sailing will repeat itself but regardless, last night can be categorized as a full-on success. I'm very proud of him on the one hand but also astounded that my baby is now officially a big boy. When did THAT happen?
There are of course great advantages to having another big boy around the house, particularly when there is work to be done. Whilst raking up leaves a few weeks ago, we found Sam to be a very willing and able helper. Some friends of ours expecting their first child were telling us that they were looking forward to having someone to help out with chores in about six to ten years. We would argue that they needn't expect the wait to be so long. As you can see in the video, Sam willingly rolled the bags of leaves down the back garden while providing audio entertainment as well. Who needs tv when you've got a superhero two-year old in the house!
