"No way", "I did it", "I don't know" and "I love you" are just some of the new vocabulary gems that have arisen this month. Taken together, these statements could make up the lines of an amusing skit involving a mess in the kitchen and a seemingly innocent toddler covered in flour. But I digress...
One of the biggest milestones of Sam's nineteenth month has been the retirement of the high chair in favour of a booster seat strapped to a dining room chair. Sam likes it much better and has been much more agreeable to mealtimes ever since. The above picture was taken in the booster chair when I was rudely interrupting his dinner with a photo session. Meanwhile, the video below is from one of his last evenings in the high chair. As you can see, he was quite pleased with the introduction of an ice cream sandwich. Future food critic? Perhaps.
On the topic of food and appetites, it would appear that our son definitely takes after his father in the bottomless pit category. Time and again over the past few months, he has blown us and his babysitter away with the shear quantity of food that he can cram into his head. On our last two visits to Wendy's over the last month or so (yes, we are very bad parents), he has proceeded to eat the entire chicken nugget kids' meal, a meal that can easily stuff a six year old. Despite this massive caloric intake, Sam remains on the lighter side for his age but is managing to creep up the percentiles on the growth charts so we're very pleased. I imagine that he is storing all this food somewhere handy and that one day he'll wake up and be over six feet tall. Let's just hope that he waits until well into high school so as not to freak out the other kids.
On the weather front, spring seems to be taking hold at last. Our tulip bulbs are starting to appear and the fog has rolled in. Fog is my friend now as it eats snow. However, I shouldn't be complaining about snow as we've been tremendously lucky this year with a relatively mild winter without much of the white stuff. In fact, up until last week, there was actually very little snow left to speak of. True to form however, we were hit with a snowstorm last weekend, a classic Sheila's Brush, but since there wasn't much of a base to work up from, there's not much left to melt. Mild temperatures in the forecast for the coming week and it just might be time to put away the winter boots. Hooray!
