It's been a busy month here so apologies for the hiatus in blog postings. We've got a big trip coming up shortly and so are busy getting things ready. Sam has been very busy himself with toddler pursuits such as upping his running speed, perfecting the art of jumping and talking like crazy. As it turns out, the ear tubes that he received a few weeks ago have done absolute wonders in terms of his speech development. Within hours of the surgery, he was saying new words and properly pronouncing words that he already knew but was saying incorrectly. If we'd only known how much his recurrent ear infections were harming his speech, we would have done the surgery long ago! The lack of ear infections since the surgery (knock on wood) has been a complete bonus.
The weather this spring and summer (so far) has been really lovely here in Newfoundland, apart from the occasional day of fog and rain. As such, our garden is bursting with flowers and we've been managing to get outside quite a lot. Sam has recently discovered how much fun it is to play in the sand on the beach so that has added a whole new dimension to our visits to our much adored destination of Middle Cove beach. It's on days like these where I can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else. In fact, most of the time I can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else. St. John's is big enough to have everything we need while small enough to feel nice and cosy. With the ocean only a few minutes drive away from our house, what more could you want. Sure, some people complain about the weather but in the four years that we've lived here, we've come to the conclusion that it's really not as bad as people say. As far as we're concerned, the benefits far outweigh the occasional inconvenience of digging out the car in February or dealing with a foggy April. We're quite proud to be CFAs (come from aways) who have become NBCs (Newfoundlanders by choice). Our son is a born and raised Newfoundlander and we're sure he'll show us the ropes. :)
